Temporary car park in the Turnstones, Meriden, approved

A planning application for temporary parking on the junction of The Turnstones and The Gossamers in the Meriden Estate was approved by Watford Borough Council on January 11.

The “short term measure” is designed to alleviate parking issues during The Meriden Estate Regeneration, a multi-million-pound project to bring 133 homes, new retail space, and public realm improvements.

Because construction work on the market square parking area site over the road is ongoing, and set to continue until the last quarter of 2023, shop visitors are "known to" park in York Way despite double yellow lines.

The application described the situation as “potentially hazardous” adding that cars turning left into York Way are forced to cross the central demarcation line causing a “potential risk of collision”.

There will be 14 parking spaces available until they are removed, and landscaping takes place, once the Market Square Carpark is operational.

As a condition of the permission the car park must be removed within 18 months.
