'Full reconstruction' in part of Prestwick Road, South Oxhey

Prestwick Road has become notorious for potholes and general damage.

Earlier this year the Watford Observer reported that a driver had to fork out £370 after a pothole in the road ruined two of his tyres, near Hayling Road.

When Labour's Three Rivers councillors Stephen Cox and Stephen King were out on “pothole patrol” in South Oxhey, they said Prestwick Road was one of the two worst offenders along with Gosforth Lane.

As part of works which have been ongoing since February 10, Hertfordshire County Council has already made a number of improvements to a section of the road between Little Oxhey Lane and the Ashridge Drive Junction.

The carriageway has had a full reconstruction and works also included resetting the kerbs, cleaning, reinstating road markings, resurfacing the path, and reinstating marker posts.

Councillor Christopher Alley, who had called for the repairs, said: “The highways are the lifeblood of the county.

“When you have dodgy roads accidents happen and I’m very happy that after a lot of pushing that something has been done for the benefit of local residents and businesses.”

Similar works are due to be carried out elsewhere in the road from the end of March to mid-April.
