Police have confirmed a man died after a BMW hit a crash barrier in the A414.

Hertfordshire Constabulary have appealed for information after a man in his thirties died at the scene of the crash in the road, towards Park Street, yesterday (April 7).

The force said that a grey BMW 318D collided with a crash barrier and ended up on its roof at around 1.07pm.

The driver was the sole occupant of the car, which police believe was travelling along the M1 before the crash.

Emergency services were called and the A414, near St Albans, was shut in both directions for a time while motorists were asked to avoid the area.

Sergeant Rebecca Cornell said: “Our thoughts are with those affected by the man’s death and we are doing everything we can to piece together what happened.

“We are keen to hear from anyone who saw the collision, or the events leading up to it, to please get in touch.”

She added that any information could be vital and asked people to email her at rebecca.cornell@herts.police.uk or call 101 quoting ISR 378 of 7 April.
