Thousands of pounds have been paid by motorists caught speeding in Watford.

Between September 1, 2022, and September 1 this year, a total of 972 fines were paid, coming in at £97,200.

The data was obtained via a Watford Observer Freedom of Information request for the number of activations resulting in police issuing a notice of intended prosecution.

Herts Police revealed that 5,901 offences had been recorded, but some were ongoing and have not yet been finalised.

Drivers may be offered up to three options for complying with their notices of intended prosecution – a driver retraining course, a fine and point or court.

This will be dependent on the speed they were travelling at and whether they have attended and completed a driver retraining course previously.

Each fine is £100, and it is paid to the Fixed Penalty Office at His Majesty's Courts and Tribunals Service and onto central government not to Herts Police.
