Cineworld has cancelled all screenings of a film about the Prophet Muhammad's daughter – but the controversial movie can still be seen in Watford.
The chain has cut all UK screenings of The Lady of Heaven after protests outside cinemas in Bolton, Birmingham and Sheffield.
The film shows the Prophet Muhammed – which is offensive to Muslims – and was branded “blasphemous” by Bolton Council of Mosques, which claimed it “misrepresents orthodox historical narratives”.
In response to its June 3 release a petition calling for it to be pulled received more than 120,000 signatures.
But Malik Shlibak, the film's producer, said "no one should dictate for the British public what they can and cannot watch or discuss", the BBC reported.
Cineworld says the film was pulled to “ensure the safety of our staff and customers”.
It is currently still being shown in some cinemas, including Vue at Woodside Leisure Park at 2.30pm and 6pm today.
Vue said decisions about how long films are shown are taken on a “site-by-site basis”
Do you think the film should be cancelled?
The handling of The Lady of Heaven has sparked debate - some believe that it is right that the film should be pulled if Muslims take offence, but others say that there should be a freedom of expression in creative arts. Is it right that the film was pulled following the protests?
