Watford Grounded Kitchen closure remains unexplained

Grounded Kitchen has not responded to several requests for comment after the High Street branch closed unexpectedly earlier this year.

The eatery's unit, which opened in August 2022, was put up for lease without announcement on February 19.

Watford Borough Council said it had no information on why it closed, but confirmed it was not asked to do so by the local authority.

The Korean chain opened in Watford in 2022.

Atria Watford, which is the landlord, was also approached for information but did not respond.

The branch still appears on the company’s website but is listed as temporarily closed on Google.

Grounded Kitchen's former 4,237 square foot unit has been described as a “much sought after” spot and can be leased for £100,000 a year or £8,333 per month.

Grounded Kitchen serves Korean-inspired food. Having first opened a branch in Leicester in 2017, it now operates 13 across the north, midlands and north London.

Watford Observer readers have weighed in on what they would like to see replace the eatery, with one commenter wishing for a “proper chippie”.

Another agreed: “If we have to have a food place, can we not have a good old fashioned fish and chip shop or restaurant? Somewhere we can take our parents out for a proper meal they will eat.”
