With a disco ball hanging from the ceiling and a menu advertising ‘main lines’ including sirloin steak at £4.50 and scampi at £2.50, this was how the interior of a bar located on a Watford street corner looked in 1984.

The name of that bar – Shakers Wine Bar – can be seen above the emergency exit sign at the back of the room.

This small bar was located at 28, Market Street on the corner of Percy Road – opposite Holy Rood Catholic Church – and the building remained a licensed premises after Shakers closed.

It was later Mangans before becoming the Market Tavern.
