Four Watford restaurants have received the top score for food hygiene in March so far, is your favourite among them?

Inspectors from Watford Borough Council visited the eateries without notice to examine them on three categories: hygienic food handling, cleanliness and condition of facilities and building, and the management of food safety.

The council then rated them between zero and five, with the lowest meaning 'urgent improvement necessary' and the highest 'very good'.

These restaurants and cafes received the highest score:

  • Gokula Cafe at 65 Market Street, inspected on March 4
  • Laser Planet at 127 The Parade High Street, inspected on March 4
  • MAEME`s Flame Grilled at 8 Clarendon Road, inspected on March 5
  • Tarboush at 57 Market Street, inspected on March 5

The council also announced that Brazuca Bar, at 160 Whippendell Road, was rated 3/5 based on a visit on January 16, an improvement on its 1/5 score last year.

The bar was hit with its fifth ‘major improvement necessary’ in eight years in March 2023, but has since raised its score.

The latest data continues the town’s great record for food hygiene, after no restaurants received a score below 5/5 in the whole month of February.

Only four establishments are 1/5 or 'major improvement necessary', and none received the lowest score.
