Cassiobury Park new café opened earlier this month to much fanfare, but is it worth a visit?

The Cedar Cafe at the park hub welcomed its first customers in the former Daisy’s in the Park space on March 1.

The new eatery is run by EMA Catering, which also operates other park cafes and festival food stands.

Cedar offers a range of hot and cold food made fresh on site, from English breakfasts to full meals like spaghetti bolognese.

I ordered the falafel, sun dried tomatoes and hummus hot panini and a lemon meringue crush flapjack, and took a seat on the new benches outside.

I was impressed when the meal arrived as it was a decent portion for just a café lunch and came with a side salad.

The sandwich was almost overflowing with crispy falafel, roasted peppers and tomatoes, with hummus on top.

I felt the sharp flavours of the vegetables were well balanced by the rich herbs and spices of the falafel as well as the smooth chickpea spread.

The toasted panini was a good option for a brisk spring day, but I was also glad for the salad with tomatoes, cucumber, leaves and a balsamic vinaigrette, which added a fresh element on the side.

After the sandwich, I opted for a lemon meringue crush flapjack, which came covered in citrus-flavoured icing and small clusters of meringue.

The texture was soft with a satisfying crunch from the icing, and the lemon flavour was pleasant but not overly-sweet or artificial.

These were just two items from the cafe’s large menu, from hot and cold food, cakes, and various drinks, there really is something for everyone.

As it is right next to the playground, families with children will be happy to know there's different flavours of ice cream and lollies, and two iced slushie drinks.

I enjoyed my visit to the new Cedar Café and the staff were exceedingly friendly and welcoming. I will definitely be back to try more of its large offering.
