Hundreds of South Oxhey residents have signed a petition calling on Arriva to keep the popular 503 bus route.

Three Rivers’ Labour group has been collecting signatures over the past few weeks for a petition to keep the route.

Politicians presented the petition, which had been signed by 551 people, to Arriva at Garston Garage last Friday.

Councillor Joan King, South Oxhey representative and county councillor, said: "I am disappointed that Arriva did not come along and faced residents here who are very angry and upset by the company's decision.  Bus users are going to be inconvenienced terribly if they ignore everyone and press on regardless."

Labour councillors said more signatures are being added to the petition due to the public "outrage" at the cuts.

Leader of the district’s Labour group, Councillor Stephen Cox, said he is concerned about how the cuts could affect those living in the area, especially those at the top Oxhey Drive and Muirfield Road.

These latest concerns follow on from Hertfordshire County Council’s consultation which looks at axing funding to 52 of the county’s 119 bus routes.
