A television crew beamed into Watford town centre last week determined to brighten up one of the town’s multi-storey car parks.

Jeni Barnett and the team from Six O’Clock Live transformed the concrete surroundings of the Church Street car park with flowers, a mural, a rockery and a fountain.

The LWT programme, presented by Frank Bough, undertook the challenge after the English Tourist Board announced an initiative to encourage local councils to brighten up their car parks.

Before the Friday evening television programme went on air Jeni went round recruiting Watford shops and businesses to help out with the challenge.

The police, Watford Girls’ Grammar pupils, a flower shop, the RAC and a crime prevention team were among those who contributed.

A spokesman for Watford Borough Council said: “Since the Harlequin Centre was opened the car parks in Watford have been leased to Capital and Counties. Any improvements would be undertaken by them.”
