People will have the chance to learn about becoming a Dementia Friend at a special talk at Watford Central Library at 10.30am on Thursday, October 2.

Iain MacBeath, Hertfordshire County Council’s director of health and community services, will lead an hour-long session to raise awareness of the role people can play to support people with dementia. No booking is necessary.

Colette Wyatt-Lowe, the county council’s cabinet member for Adult Care and Health, said: "More and more people are living with dementia. There are many small but important ways we can help people with dementia to live more fulfilled and independent lives.

"This event will be an opportunity to pledge support to those living with dementia and to become a Dementia Friend."

The library is also hosting an information event on the same day between 10am and 2pm when visitors can speak to local organisations supporting people with dementia and their carers. There will also be information about local library services including the Reminiscence Collection.

Dementia Friends is an Alzheimer’s Society initiative. If people are unable to attend, they can watch a short video online or sign up for a pack with more information by visiting www.dementiafriends.org.uk
