None of the household waste and recycling centres in south west Hertfordshire will close, but hours will be slashed.
Hertfordshire County Council agreed yesterday to dramatic reductions to the opening hours of 17 recycling sites in the county, including the sites at Rickmansworth and Garston.
The site at Rickmansworth will now open from 10am to 6pm Thursdays to Mondays - leaving it closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
Waterdale will have the same opening hours but close on Thursdays and Fridays.
The site at Elstree, which the county council consultation last month initially proposed closing completely, will be closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays but remain open the rest of the week.
The changes will be introduced in January 2015.
It is anticipated that these changes to the service will result in savings of £6m over the next eight years.
