This month sees more history and travel books among the new additions at the public libraries.

‘Mr Prune on Cotswold’ by R.B. Brown is an interesting guide book of the Cotswolds written in the form of a tour. Four books about the ancient bridges are by E Jervoise. ‘Cruising in Scotland’ describes how an artist obtained great pleasure from a £35 motor cruiser.

A book by F.M. McNeill containing 150 breakfast recipes will be found useful by many housewives. ‘The Principles and Practice of Poultry Husbandry’ by T Newman will be useful for the poultry keeper. ‘Building a Cottage’ by E Meynell is a true tale of how a Sussex cottage was built, the narrative not being cumbered with too technical details.

‘Doctors Don’t Believe It’ (A.A. Thomen) dilates upon popular errors and superstitions. ‘Through the Leper-Squint’ is a study of leprosy from pre-Christian times to the present day.
