Sixth formers in Aldenham have been hand-picked by art world experts as finalists in a student art competition.

Art work by Haberdashers Aske’s Girls’ School students Eva Eracleous, Giselle Thong, Matilda Granger, Naomi Harris and Daniela Kantor for the Greater London competition UpStArt.

Pieces were among 32 works selected by judges from Saatchi Art, Opera and Whitechapel galleries, the RCA, Affordable Art Fair and Fine Art Society.

Now these works, and a further two selected by the public, will be part of an exhibition at The Strand Gallery, London from November 23 to December 6.

Headteacher Pat White said: "We are delighted that the skills and efforts of our students has been acknowledged through this worthwhile venture."

The UpStArt competition was launched this year to give sixth form students in Greater London the opportunity to have their work seen beyond the classroom.

Proceeds from the auction will be split between the artists and anti-prejudice charity the Anne Frank Trust, a charity which uses schoolchildren as ambassadors to combat prejudice and discrimination among all ethnic and social groups.

Prizes for the winner, who will be announced on December 6, include £1,000 cash, £500 Cass Art vouchers and work experience at UK Greetings.

Winning schools will receive master-classes with graffiti artist Nick Walker, Beano artist Kev F and graphic novelist Sarah Lightman.
