More than £1,000 was raised for the national eating disorders charity, beat, at a zumbathon on Saturday.

Gemma Domoney organised the three-hour session at St Margarets Sport Centre in Merry Hill Road, Bushey, to coincide with national eating disorder awareness week.

Three local zumba instructors, Liz Law, Michele Kleinmann and Meg Jordan, gave up their time to each run a one hour session.

Ms Domoney, said: "I cannot thank them enough for helping to make the event the success it was. We raised £240 on the day and combined with online sponsorship money, we have raised more than double my original target."

The 29-year-old chose to support beat after some of her friends were diagnosed with eating disorders.

She added: "It has been great to raise money for beat - the charity is dedicated to support those affected by eating disorders, and they have also told me that this is the first zumbathon that has been organised to support their cause.

"As well as the money, I hope that by raising awareness of these invisible diseases will enable people to come forward the early stages and seek the help they need."
