A school in Bushey hosted a range of story-telling sessions in unusual places with the aim of stirring imagination and creativity, in aid of World Book Week.

Pupils at St Margaret's School for Girls had classes in the school's Second World War air raid shelters, the Victorian laundry and boiler rooms and the derelict ice house.

They also enjoyed master classes in a cupboard under a staircase with author Anne Cassidy and Carnegie medal nominated author, Sarah Crossman.

Former student Eleanor Hawken returned to the school to talk to the pupils about her latest novel, The Blue Lady, which is based upon her time as a boarder at the school.

Yesterday, on World Book Day itself, the St Margaret's Prep School dressed up a book characters and enjoyed book trails, quizzes and a short story competition.
