Pre-schoolers at Busy Bees nursery in Watford have taken part in an Enormous Crocodile Workshop with members of Roald Dahl’s Marvellous Children’s Charity.

After being read an animated version of the tale of a greedy croc, who enjoys nothing more than guzzling up little boys and girls, youngsters from the pre-school room set about creating a replica of the famous book character from a range of materials and green paint.

Every year each division of Busy Bees selects a children’s charity to raise money for throughout the year, through a variety of fundraising events and activities.

Roald Dahl’s Marvellous Children’s Charity, which works to make life better for seriously ill children in the UK, has been selected by Busy Bees nurseries in the South East and will receive all proceeds raised by the nurseries, including Watford, at the end of the year.

Rob Danks, nursery manager, said: "Raising money for children’s charities is very important to us here at Busy Bees.

"We feel it’s crucial to help our children understand about the need to help those less fortunate than ourselves and have lots of fun in the process.

"Roald Dahl is a beloved children’s author whose stories and illustrations always have our toddlers and pre-schoolers in fits of giggles and the charity is doing some amazing work with very poorly children all around the country.

"We’ve had a fantastic time this morning with our little ones. They adored being told the story of The Enormous Crocodile and have produced a very colourful and creative version of the character himself, which will take pride of place on display in our reception area."

Sarah Reilly, from the charity's fundraising team, said: "We’ve had such an enourmously warm welcome from the children and staff at Busy Bees in Watford this morning.

"The children were the stars of the show, creating a splendid crocodile and having lots of fun in the process.

"We’re thrilled that everyone at Busy Bees is so ethusiastic about supporting Roald Dahl’s Marvellous Children’s Charity and helping other children.

"We can’t wait to see what else the children create this year as part of their fundraising efforts."
