Owners of an "eyesore" shed in the front garden of their house in Bushey have been issued a notice to be removed.

One resident in Park Avenue has put up a shed in front of their house without seeking planning permission from Hertsmere Borough Council.

Neighbours are concerned that if nothing is done about it others will follow suit and it will blight the street scene.

Emma Cootes, 93, who lives opposite, said: "It is an eyesore.

"The shed should not be there - it is in my outline and spoils the view. We have enough problems around here with the traffic and we do not need this."

Another neighbour, Valerie McGuire, said: "It is horrendous. The shed was put up in January and although we have sort of got used to it now - I know the man who lives there stores his motorbike in there - it does spoil the view.

"We moved up here from the other end of Park Avenue because it is greener and has more open space and this is not something we want to see."

According to planning policy it is illegal to build anything in front of a house without seeking permission from the council.

Keely James, spokesperson for Hertsmere Borough Council said: "We are currently investigating a shed, which has been erected in a front garden of a property in Bushey.

"We have written to the owners asking them to remove the shed, which breaches local planing laws."

An enforcement notice was issued to the residents of the house on Wednesday. They now have 28 days to remove the shed.

North Bushey councillor Leslie Winters, who was asked by the residents to look into the matter, said: "The local residents will be pleased with outcome of the enforcement notice.

"Having the shed there really does blight the street scene and it's good know that it has been dealt with."

The Watford Observer approached the owners of the shed but they had not responded by the time of going to press.
