A man has been charged with a number of motoring offences after being caught by a police dog.

Charlie Murray, 24 and of Gable Close in Abbots Langley, has been charged with driving otherwise than in accordance with a driving license, driving whilst uninsured and failing to stop a motor vehicle when required.

At around 8pm on Friday, July 24, officers on patrol in Bedmond signalled for the driver of a Transit van to stop in the High Street but it is alleged he failed to do so.

The vehicle was later found in Chapel Way but there was no-one with it.

Police Dog Sam and his handler from the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire (BCH) Dog Unit were called to help officers search the area for the driver.

After searching several gardens, Sam led his handler to a wheelie bin where a man was found inside and arrested by officers.

Sergeant Vicky Stoughton from the BCH Dog Unit said: “All of our dogs work brilliantly not only with their handler but as part of a wider team of police officers. This allows us to effectively respond to, and assist at, a large number of different incidents."

Murray will appear at Central West Herts Magistrates’ Court on September 4.
