Thousands of people are expected to flood to Croxley Green next week ahead of Classics on the Green.

The popular car festival is set to feature a vast array of classic vehicles and supercars, with organisers expecting around 2,000 people to attend on Wednesday, August 5.

Ferraris, Lamborghinis, Aston Martin’s, Jaguars and many other popular cars are set to park up on The Green from 2pm.

Despite concerns about signs which have been placed around The Green saying no parking is permitted at any time, one organiser has confirmed this will not affect the popular event.

Kevin France, club treasurer of Watford and District Classic Vehicle Club, said: “We have not changed anything this year because the formula works very well for us.

“We open it up to any cars that are interesting.

“This means people who come along could see rally cars, kit cars, old fashioned lorries and this means it is not just one type of person at the event.

“People who come along could see an old Austin parked next to a Ferrari and that could be parked next to an old-fashioned coach.

“It is the largest mid-week classic-car event that we know of in the country.”

Entry to the event is free, but organisers ask for donations to charity.

An estimated £44,000 has been raised by donations at the motoring extravaganza for various charities and Mr France said all the chosen charities are organisations which “support local people”, even if they are a national charity.

The 58-year-old, who first set up the event in 2002, said the new signs were not concerning organisers.

He said: “I think it was not going to affect it, because with the number of people and visitors we get, if there was going to be parking in The Green, it would be total chaos.”

Mr France added that they are hoping to emulate the Classics on the Common in Harpenden, which he says attracts more than 10,000 people.

He added: “We have been using social media and we are going to be putting up large banners around the area and in Rickmansworth to advertise the event.

“Where else can you go to a five-hour event and not pay anything?”

The event will continue throughout the afternoon and into the evening.
