A schoolgirl has raised £350 for Watford Food Bank as part of her Bat Mitzvah preparations.

Talia Rabinowitz, 11, from Radlett, also volunteered at the foodbank in Imperial Way and raised another £350 for charity Save a Child’s Heart.

Talia arrived at the foodbank with three crates of food as she spent the morning volunteering at the food bank this week.

She said: “First we sorted out all of the food I’d brought and then we labelled the food with the sell by date to make sure they were still good to eat.

“Then we placed each type of food into its own section – putting all the soup cans in one section and making sure that food with a 2015 sell by date gets used first.”

Talia also helped pack boxes for different sized families, making sure they had a good variety of food and a few goodies of chocolate and biscuits.

She added: “I felt happy because I knew I was helping people, and I made sure every person had a variety of extra treats, for example extra sauces, chocolates as well as canned fruit, vegetables and soups.

"I thought it was really special how many people volunteer to spend their time sorting food and helping people in need.”
