A fundraising event at a Watford supermarket has raised more than £3,000 for charity.

The event held last month included a static bike ride the distance from London to Brighton in aid of the Sue Ryder charity ‘Raise a Smile’ campaign resulted in a collection of £3,256.

The store team cycled well passed the specified distance making it to the equivalent number of miles to Edinburgh.

The Ascot Road supermarket also held various other activities over the weekend including a raffle to win a new washing machine and a Watford Premier League shirt.

There was also a tombola, beach café and guess the number of balloons in a Renault Clio to win a bottle of champagne.

Penny the Penguin made an appearance and children enjoyed having their faces painted.

The senior management team also took part in a challenge to see which of them could eat the most doughnuts in ten minutes.

Ken Owen, community champion, said: “Colleagues really enjoyed themselves and put the fun into fundraising. The response from our customers was unbelievable.

"As always they were extremely generous and we are delighted to have raised such a fantastic amount for our charity partner Sue Ryder.”
