Police are warning motorists that heavy traffic is expected on the A41 and M1 near Bushey and Aldenham this weekend.
A large number of people are expected to attend the annual festival, Janmashtami, at Bhaktivedanta Manor in Hilfield Lane, Aldenham, on Saturday and Sunday.
Police believe that the large number of verhicles travelling to the site will put pressure on the local road network as well as the M1 around junction 5.
There are also a number of other events going on in the area this weekend, including the music festival in Battlers Green, Radlett that will add to the traffic.
Inspector Richard Johnson said: "The Janmashtami Festival is a large event with many people expected to attend.
"Traffic management measures have been put in place for the event by the highways authorities and the event organisers to help mitigate congestion, however, the event will inevitably lead to some impact on roads in the area.
"I would ask that if you are not travelling to the event to avoid driving in the area if possible. If you do need to drive through the area, please monitor traffic updates on radio stations or updates from the Highways England and Herts County Council in advance of travelling."
