The rare poster emblazoned with the words 'London The Opening of Parliament'
A rare 1931 railway poster by a Kings Langley artist sold for £654 at an auction in America on Thursday night.
The forty inches by fifty inches poster, emblazoned with the words ‘London The Opening of Parliament’, was the work of the late Christopher Clark, who lived and worked at Studio House, Kings Langley.
Before the auction at Swann Auction Galleries on Thursday, November 19, the poster had been expected to sell for between 1,500 and 2,000 dollars, but, in the end, it was snapped up by a mystery bidder for one thousand dollars, or £654.
The poster was issued by the London, Midland and Scottish Railway in 1931 and is made rare because of the wording, different from the usual ‘London For State Occasions’.
