To mark the start of the Peace Garden project in the Community Orchard in Cassiobury Park a memorial bench and a Yew Tree has been installed.

The two donations have been installed in the fledgling Peace Garden whose development will continue over the course of the Heritage Lottery and Big Lottery funded restoration of Cassiobury Park to 2017.

The bench is in memory of Marguerite Joyce Neale and her daughter, Angela Neale, is delighted with the work.

She said: We were delighted to work with the council to provide the bench for the Peace Garden.

“We wanted something to remember our wonderful mother by and as she loved to people-watch, a bench over-looking the park was ideal.

“We were so impressed with the way that the council handled the process and we hope the bench will be enjoyed by many in the years to come.”

A member of Watford’s Interfaith Group, Jeff Bateman, donated a Millennium Yew Tree that was given to him in autumn 1999 to celebrate the Millennium.

The tree was one of 7000 which were given out and are propagated from ancient yew trees thought to be more than 2000 years old.
