The rising number of commuters parking near a station has left people unable to park on their own driveways.

Businesses and residents have been left frustrated and a working party has been set up by Croxley Green Parish Council to tackle the parking problems near Croxley Station.

One business owner who is part of that committee revealed potential solutions to create more spaces are being thwarted by development plans.

In 2011, plans were drawn up to create a mixture of shops and flats on half of the existing car park, reducing the number of spaces.

TFL indicated they wanted to bring the scheme forward between 2016 and 2021.

Linda Anderson, owner of The Kitchen, Watford Road, is part of the working party.

She said: “The station car park is full most of the time.

“Some people living in Dickinson Square have said they have had to park ten minutes away from their house because their spaces are being taken up by commuters. Friends have also said they are unable to get on their own drive.

“The frustrating thing is that the suggestions we are putting forward are just not possible. We looked at the site next to the Shell garage and whether a car park could be installed there.

“We also looked at whether we could create a multi-storey car park by building another level above the existing car park and it would still be out of view.

“But that will not be happening because that land is earmarked for development.”

There are currently 86 spaces at Croxley Station and visitors have to pay £4.20 a day to use it.

A controlled parking scheme that would restrict who can park in the area is not supported by politicians or businesses.

Croxley Green Parish Councillor Jussie Kaur said: “People are having continual difficulties because of careless parking. In Frankland Road in particular, some commuters are even parking across residents’ driveways, blocking them in. This is intolerable.”

Cllr Rupert Barnes, who represents Dickinsons at Three Rivers District Council, said: “One of the main problems with the parking is that people cannot park to visit the shops along Watford Road or get in to their own driveways.

“We need to look at creating more parking spaces for people to use the shops.

“There will always be a lot of commuters parking in the area, but we need to tackle it where it is obstructive.

“A resident-only parking area could be created. But I don’t think residents would actually want that because they would have to end up paying for it and it would restrict their ability to have friends and families around.

"It would always push the problem into another part of Croxley.
