A family currently living in a mould-infested flat say the danger to their health is not being recognised.

Colin Price, his wife Claire and their three daughters who are 11-years-old, six-years-old and nine-months-old, say they are “appalled” by the way they have been treated by Watford Community Housing Trust regarding the growing mould problem in their two bed flat.

Mr Price said he contacted the trust in February last year having noticed mould growing in one of the bedrooms and the front room of their Munden View flat in the Meriden estate.

Mr Price said: “The problem gradually got worse and it’s been taking over the whole flat. Our bedding’s all damp and it’s all over the children’s toys.

“Workers at the trust have been round – they came round four months ago.

“Two months later they came round and tried to sort the front room, my wife had to stay in the bedroom all day to supervise with the baby, but the problem’s still there, and they’re now due to come next week.

“It’s appalling how slow they’ve been when we pay so much for this flat and when we’ve complained about this for so long.

“There is total disregard of the effect this is having on our health.”

Mr Price added that his six-year-old daughter, who suffers with asthma, his wife and baby have all been given doctors’ notes for chest problems caused by the mould.

The family are currently bidding for a three-bedroom home.

He added: “Even with the doctors’ notes they haven’t taken this incident as urgent.”

A Watford Community Housing Trust spokesman said: “We are aware of Mr Price’s situation and are working with him to resolve the problem. Representatives of the trust’s repairs team have visited his home on several occasions to assess the cause of the condensation in his home and implement measure to help alleviate it.

“Further works are also due to take place over the next few weeks.”
