A new chairman has been appointed for Watford Borough Council.

Darren Walford received the chains of office from the former council chairman Kareen Hastrick at the council's annual meeting on Tuesday.

The Liberal Democrat has represented the Tudor ward since 2009.

As chairman, he will support two charities of his choice, which are Watford Workshops and The Michael Green Foundation.

Watford Workshops, which has been around for over 50 years, provides work experience, skills and training for disadvantaged and disabled people.

The Michael Green Diabetes Foundation raises awareness of Type 2 diabetes and raises funds for Watford General Hospital.

The council's new vice-chairman is Labour's Jagtar Singh Dhindsa of Vicarage ward.
