Bollywood music, Irish folk tunes and pop hits played on the ukelele provided the soundtrack to a day of entertainment at the Watford Observer Fun Day.

Thousands of people enjoyed sunshine and music at Bushey Sports Club, in Aldenham Road, Bushey, on Sunday.

Ukie TooNes, a ukelele group that has travelled the country raising money for charity - opened a day of music and dance on the stage.

There were performances from Margaret Howard Theatre Schools, Celtic Hearts Irish dancers and singer and guitarist Rob Miller, and a fitting finale came from Kalpech Bollywood dancers.

Children tried their hand at laser tag, with more traditional attractions including fairground rides and beat the goalie.

Charities such as Guide Dogs, Hula Animal Rescue and Harpenden Dogs Trust had stalls.

Mayor of Hertsmere Cllr Peter Rutledge and Mayoress Cllr Jane West mingled with crowds, who could sample exotic teas and enjoy a fashion show.

Content editor Robert Collins said: “It was great to see so many people enjoying themselves in the sun.

“The entertainment was genuinely impressive - it is impossible not to be cheered up by a band playing Come Up And See Me on ukeleles, and the young Irish dancers wowed everyone at the Watford Observer stand.

“Above all, it was good to see so many people supporting charities, and the months of organisation coming together in a day so many people enjoyed.”
