A lady from Rickmansworth is not letting cancer stand in the way of her fundraising efforts.

Ingrid Copperman is holding a charity coffee morning at Bill's Resturant, Watford, on September 30, despite undergoing a four-month course of chemotherapy.

The 48-year-old was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in July and has had surgery since, but said she did not want the disease to stop her raising money and awareness.

All the money raised at the coffee morning will be donated to Macmillan Cancer.

She said: "One in three people get cancer and I never thought I’d become one of those statistics. I work for an alliance of cancer charities and have always supported awareness raising and fundraising events but this year, supporting such an event has taken on a whole new meaning for me.

"The support and advice Macmillan provide to people who are facing the most terrifying time of their lives is invaluable and it’s so easy to help others by simply taking part in a wonderfully social event, with a cup of coffee and a slice of cake.

"Holding the coffee morning in a central location in Watford means that more people can join us, make new friends and enjoy a break in their day. Bill’s are doing more than simply offering space to hold the coffee morning, they are very generously providing free tea and coffee for all who attend too, so it would be lovely to see as many people as possible join us to support this fantastic cause.”

Ms Copperman works for Cancer52, a network of charities that support people with rare and less common cancers.

She said: "We need to do all we can to help people understand symptoms to spot these diseases at the earliest stage and to support all of the organisations doing so much to help provide services and solutions to treat them too.”
