The family of a young man who died on New Year’s Day after battling a brain tumour have taken part in a charity walk.

Adam Barclay, who lost his fight with the tumour three months before he and Emma Jolly, 24, were due to marry, was remembered by Emma along with Adam’s mum Wendy, 55, Adam’s stepdad Ken, 65, and daughter Lola, four.

The family took part in the fifth annual Brain Tumour Research Canal Walk on Sunday, which is a scenic 11-mile route along the Grand Union Canal, starting and finishing at the Three Locks pub in Stoke Hammond.

Mrs Barclay, who marked the day she was due to get married by changing her surname, said: “I feel immensely emotional for all of us to have done this walk together remembering Adam.

“All of our efforts since Adam died have so far raised over £1,400, but we want to do all we can to raise money for research into brain tumours in the hope of preventing other families from experiencing the dreadful loss that we have.

“Lola was so proud of her medal, and she now wants some more to add to her collection. We will keep going with our events because we want people to realise that brain tumours kill more children and adults under the age of 40 than any other cancer.”
