Shoppers are being urged to stay vigilant after a spate of purse thefts.
Three people have been targeted in Rickmansworth since the middle of August.
One shopper was targeted in Waitrose, Homestead Road, on September 19; another was in Marks and Spencer, High Street, on September 14 and the third was in Tesco, Harefield Road, on August 16.
On two of the occasions, the victims were distracted by the thieves who struck up a conversation with them.
Police community support officer Alan Waller said: “I’d like to take this opportunity to remind people to remain vigilant when out shopping. Use a handbag that can be properly closed so it is more difficult for someone to open it and reach in and always carry it with you, never leave it unattended in a trolley.”
Anyone with information should call Hertfordshire Constabulary on 101.
