It can often be difficult to accurately date when photos were taken in the past but that doesn’t apply to this picture.
The Watford Observer has again joined forces with its friends at Watford Museum to look back at structures, objects or businesses from the town’s past that have either disappeared or been relocated and this week we look back to the final day before this bridge was reduced to rubble.
The museum’s volunteer archivist Christine Orchard said: “A bridge carrying a railway line used to cross Wiggenhall Road close to where Thomas Sawyer Way now comes across.
“Unlike some images which we have no firm date of, we know that this scene was captured on June 6, 1987 just one day before the bridge was demolished.
“Today, there still seems to be advertising hoardings at the bend in the road in the distance and the turning for Lamas Road can be better seen.”
