If you were to pass this location today there is a good chance you may be on your way to visit a well known DIY store, but in the past it was home to a pub.
The Watford Observer has again joined forces with its friends at Watford Museum to look back at structures, objects or businesses from the town’s past that have either disappeared or been relocated and this week we recall the Anglers.
The museum’s volunteer archivist Christine Orchard said: “The Anglers pub was at 286 Lower High Street. Many buildings along this side of the road have been swept away but by comparing historic maps with modern maps it seems the building was to the right of the entrance into B&Q's car park.

“Sadly, little is known about its opening, but one historian notes an early mention of the pub, by name, in a temperance tract of 1878 which seems rather strange!
“The photo was probably taken in the mid-1960s. A poster on the window of an adjoining building advertises Georgie Fame playing at the Blues Club.”
