This road is perhaps best known today as the approach to a Sainsbury’s supermarket but it used to be much longer before a dual carriageway was constructed.
The Watford Observer is delighted to share pictures from the archive at Watford Museum and this week we look back at this snap of Albert Road leading from the High Street.
The museum’s volunteer archivist Christine Orchard said: “This route, which leads away from the pond-end part of the High Street, is quite an old one.

“Before the buildings that exist today were constructed it was a footpath and was later named Albert Road. Today, because it is cut in half by the dual carriageway of Beechen Grove, it is known as Albert Road South.
“The photo dates to after the opening of Caters supermarket (which can be seen to the left) in 1965.”
