Shell has confirmed when it will start work to rebuild its demolished petrol station.

The garage by The Dome roundabout in Watford closed on December 10, 2022, after it was confirmed that a full site rebuild was to take place within two years.

The structure was knocked down pretty quickly but North Watford motorists have been left confused as to why there is still no visible progress on its replacement more than a year later.

Today (May 9), a Shell spokesperson said that works at the site, referred to as Shell Sceptre, are due to get underway at the end of this month.

“We expect the works to complete by end of November,” they added. “We will build a bigger shop, Karcher car wash, and EV charge points.

“We will also be restoring the same number of fuelling positions for both cars and trucks as before.”

The site apparently had to be closed for the “extended period of time” to perform “necessary remediation works” and demolish all existing structures.

Waitrose, which operated a Little Waitrose convenience store there, said when it closed that it would be in contact with Shell once works are near completion to understand its plans as it still had “a number of years” on its lease.
