Charlie White died at the Peace Memorial Hospital in Watford at the age of 36.

A creative inside-forward who had been at the club for 16 years, he had sat out the successful 1914/15 Southern League campaign following an appendix operation.

It is believed that complications arising from this ultimately caused his death although the nature of his sudden illness was not publicised at the time.

A hugely popular figure, White made well over 400 appearances for the club, scoring 98 goals and had been taking an increasing amount of backroom responsibility in support of manager Harry Kent.

Eighty wreaths were sent to his funeral, including one in the shape of a football pitch from his colleagues at the club.
