Watford Water Polo Club Seconds won the London Division Three title despite losing 10-7 to Guildford.

The young team went into the match knowing first place was in the bag due to the team’s superior goal difference over rivals Enfield.

Watford fielded six Under-17 players in their side and won the first two periods 2-1 and 3-2.

At the end of the third period Watford were still in control at 6-4. However, a very disappointing last quarter saw the team fail to take their chances as Guildford came back and snatched the victory.

Watford Under-15s came away with a bronze medal at the British Gas ASA National Age Group Water Polo Championships in Manchester at the weekend.

The side started with an 8-3 group win over Exeter before beating Manchester 5-3. The team lost 8-3 to Sheffield but overcame Chelmsford 5-2 and Cwm Draig 10-8.

Watford finished in the top two in their group and progressed to the semi-final stage against Sedgefield where they lost 6-4. But a late goal sent them to a dramatic 7-6 victory over Caledonia in the third-place final.

The men’s team made it into the Championship Three stage of the British Water Polo League after two wins at Marlborough College at the weekend.

In their first match Watford claimed a comfortable 10-4 win over Grantham.

Watford took an early two-goal lead thanks to a brace from Matt Chapman before Grantham pulled one back. From the restart a quick pass to Nandi Cseh resulted in a third goal for Watford.

At the start of the second period Grantham netted again but Watford then hit a purple patch and scored four unanswered goals for a 7-2 half-time lead.

Zoltan Agocs, Sam Carling, Hamish Hudson and Yakov Sadovskii put them in a commanding position. Chapman completed his hat-trick before Cseh and Carling sealed a convincing win.

Watford recorded there fifth straight win in Division Four on Sunday with a hard-fought 11-9 victory against Liverpool-based side Bridgefield.

The team trailed at the end of the first quarter and were 8-6 down at the half-way point. Watford’s six goals came via doubles from Hudson and Alun Dorrington along with solitary efforts from Jason Attwood and Jack Pickford.

In the third period Watford stepped up a gear and were drawing the game 9-9. The three Watford goals came via a brace from Attwood to complete his hat-trick and a Tamas Csendes back shot.

In the final period two efforts from Hudson made the difference as Watford edged past their opponents.
