Tabard suffered a 26-20 home defeat to Harpenden in London Two North West at Cobden Hill on Saturday.
The hosts were caught napping by the visitors, who scored two smart tries after only five minutes.
Tabard began to build momentum with some solid work in the forwards and were next on the scoreboard with a well-taken try by Rhys Lewis, playing on the left wing, which was converted by Harry Gough.
But Harpenden replied with another try, which stretched their lead to 19-7.
Tabard were awarded a penalty for holding on just before the half-time whistle, which Jack Reilly slotted over to give them hope going into the second period.
The hosts had a dangerous scrum but this was turned over and they were punished as Harpenden added their third try of the game.
But Tabard refused to lie down and showed real character to reply, with Gerald Arasa splitting the defence to score a converted try. Reilly added another penalty but Tabard were unable to rescue the match.
