Steve Finn has been named in England’s 15-man squad for the World Cup.

The Watford-born Middlesex bowler was expected to be included and has duly made the cut for the squad that will now be led by Eoin Morgan, after Alastair Cook was axed as skipper of the one-day side.

The 25-year-old former Parmiter’s School pupil featured prominently during the 5-2 series defeat in Sri Lanka and has taken a total of 67 wickets during 47 one-day appearances for his country.

England’s bowling attack will be bolstered by the return of the fit-again James Anderson and Stuart Broad, while the inclusion of Gary Ballance is the third change to the squad that played in Sri Lanka. Alongside Cook, Ben Stokes and Harry Gurney have also been left out.

Morgan’s team will leave for Australia on January 6 for a tri-series against their hosts and India, before their World Cup campaign gets underway on February 14 against the Australians.

England squad: Moeen Ali; James Anderson; Gary Ballance; Ian Bell; Ravi Bopara; Stuart Broad; Joss Buttler; Steven Finn; Alex Hales; Chris Jordan; Eoin Morgan (capt); Joe Root; James Taylor; James Tredwell; Chris Woakes.
