The Gary Norman President’s Cup Group B

Hertfordshire Lions have all but booked their place in the last four of the competition after a fine 5-2 win over Meriden Ballers yesterday.

Dennis Fraser gave Lions an ideal start after ten minutes, converting strike partner Louis McNamara's clipped through ball. Soon after Fraser was brought down in the box and McNamara fired home from the penalty spot.

McNamara was involved again early in the second half, playing a long and high through ball which caused a mix up between the goalkeeper and a defender and allowing Cameron Baxendine to calmly slot home.

Meriden battled back in a game they knew they had to win to stand any chance of reaching the semi-final stage. Jason Gullin pulled a goal back and then Aaron Crawford scored the game’s second penalty to further reduce the arrears.

But any hopes of Meriden completing the comeback were ended when Jack Middleton scored after attacking a Sam Crafts corner at the back post. Fraser rounded off the scoring and put the game beyond Ballers with a calm finish late on.

The other game in the group saw Old Danes Athletic beat Cassiobury Revolution 4-1, who now have only a very outside chance of qualifying for the last four.

Chris White scored a brace for the home side, with the other goals coming from Colin Spooner and Lewis Chappel van Gilst. The Revolution goal was scored by Max Earthrowl.

Bovingdon beat Prince George 4-3 to leapfrog above their opponents in the table.

Tom Gray struck a double for Bovingdon, with the other two goals coming from Josh Banks and Chad Greaturex.

Luke Everitt took his tally for the season to 20 goals with a brace of his own for Prince George and Rob Henney netted the other.

Division One

Unless they blow up in specular fashion in the second half of the campaign, United FC look on course to win the Division One title after they swept aside WD Athletic 8-1.

Michael West scored the WD goal, with United’s coming from Ahmet Top’s four goals, Matt Byrne's brace and singes from Peter Challis and Joe Ray.

Watford Labour Club remain in second place and the only team with a realistic chance of catching United after a 3-2 win over Carpenders Park Rangers Reserves.

Labour took an early two-goal lead, the first coming from the penalty spot from Mark Bedford, before a Carpenders defender scored an own goal following a Charles Linsley corner.

Carpenders Park came back to level before the interval with goals from Harley Mead and Joe Barton, but in the second half a flicked effort from Ian Smithard sealed the vital three points for Labour.

Bedmond won 5-1 away against Woodlands Laurels.

Luke Horne gave Bedmond an early lead followed shortly after by a goal from Jordan Davies. By half time the game was already over thanks to further efforts from Owen Scully and Les Lane.

Woodlands performed better in the second 45 minutes, scoring late on through Matt O'Gorman after their opponents had only able to add one further goal to their tally through Jamie Clark.
