Watford have confirmed Gabriel Tamas has left the club after agreeing to cancel his contract by mutual consent.

We reported earlier today that the centre-back was set to quit Vicarage Road and the Hornets have now announced his departure.

Tamas joined the Golden Boys on a free transfer last summer and made nine appearances before he suffered a knee ligament injury against Bournemouth in September.

That match proved to be his last for Watford and the 31-year-old has already been linked with a move back to his native Romania.

According to reports, Steaua Bucharest – who competed in the Champions League last season – are attempting to complete a deal for the defender.
