Kings Langley joint-boss Richie Hanlon has warned his side must take Ampthill Town seriously on Saturday to avoid ending up with egg on their faces.

Hanlon stated after the 7-0 thrashing of Premier Division title rivals Sun Sports his side had to follow the win up with another three points against basement dwellers Holmer Green.

And a 2-0 win ensured Kings did just that. Now they host third-bottom Ampthill Town this weekend and Hanlon says a repeat performance is a must.

“Teams down the lower end seem to have been adding some better players and strengthening because they do not want to go down, so they are becoming harder to beat,” he explained.

“The sides in the middle have not been so much and the guys at the top have been too as they try and finish as high as possible.

“So we could end up with egg on our faces if we are not careful and don’t take these teams seriously.”

Reflecting on Saturday’s victory over second-bottom Holmer Green, secured thanks to goals from Danny Hutchins and Mitchell Weiss, Hanlon felt his side had been good value for further goals.

He said: “In the first half we should have been out of sight; we should have been five or six nil up really. In the second half we did not perform to the heights hit in the first half.

“Holmer Green were very physical but that is all I am going to say about that. We should have won by a lot more goals than we did.

“We were very solid for long spells and that was pleasing but if we had have taken our first-half chances then we would have been out of sight and they would have had no chance of catching us.”

On Tuesday Kings scored four exta-time goals to crush London Lions 7-3 in the Challenge Trophy third round.

Efforts from Ollie Cox, Sam Warrell and Daryl Atkins forced the additional 30 minutes before Cox, Callum Adebiyi, Tom Carter and Callum Bateman sealed their progress.

Kings host Wembley on Tuesday.

Oxhey Jets claimed their first league win in four on Tuesday as they came from behind to win 3-1 at Holmer Green.

An error from goalkeeper Godfrey Kalemera allowed Green to take the lead but player-manager Wayne Gladdy levelled in the 67th minute.

And just ten minutes later the turnaround was complete as Lee Armitt was allowed to scamper away and score.

The trick was repeated for 3-1, the striker latching onto goalkeeper Will Baker’s clearance and making no mistake to net with ease.

Jets are at home to London Tigers on Saturday before a home fixture with Leverstock Green on Tuesday.

In fourth, Sun Sports were unable to make up any ground on the leaders as their clash with Leverstock Green was postponed.

Sun travel to Hadley in the league on Saturday. They visit Berkhamsted in the Premier Division Cup quarter-finals on Tuesday.

The Comrades equalised via an own goal but conceded twice in the second half to exit the competition.

Four consecutive wins have seen Tring Athletic into fifth, the latest 3-2 at London Tigers on Tuesday.

Christopher Vardy, Luke Dunstan and Kieron Turner were all on target for Julian Robinson’s side.

On Saturday, a Taylor Collins strike had been enough to seal a 1-0 home win over Biggleswade United.

Tring travel to Hertford Town on Saturday before a trip to AFC Dunstable on Wednesday.

Leverstock Green fell at the last-four stage of the Herts Charity Shield on Tuesday, losing 3-1 at Hertford Town.
