Watford midfielder Ben Watson has signed a new two-year deal with the Hornets, with the club having the option of a further year.

The 29-year-old arrived at Vicarage Road in January for an undisclosed fee from Championship strugglers Wigan Athletic. He signed a short-term deal until the end of the current campaign.

He made his debut as a half-time substitute against Blackpool 24 hours after completing his move and helped the Golden Boys come back from two goals behind to thump the Tangerines 7-2.

He has since started all eight Watford matches and has helped the Hornets move up to third in the Championship table.

Watson, who impressed in the Golden Boys’ win against Fulham yesterday, spoke to the media following the game.

The Watford Observer asked if contract talks had taken place between himself and the club and he replied: “We will just have to wait and see what happens.

"I am enjoying myself here and hopefully come the end of the season something will happen.”

Prior to his move to Watford, Watson spent six years at Wigan; making 133 appearances and scoring 20 goals. The most memorable of which came in the Latics' FA Cup final win against Manchester City.

There were also loan spells at Queens Park Rangers and West Bromwich Albion during that time.
