Premier Division

In every title race there comes a defining day in the destiny of the championship and Sunday probably saw one of those in the Olympian League as Old Danes Athletic beat fellow title challengers Bovingdon by a single goal and leaders Prince George were held to a goalless draw by second bottom Inter.

Old Danes are still unbeaten but they needed the full three points if they were to keep their title hopes alive and they managed to do so winning a tight battle with Bovingdon.

The first half was even as Bovingdon saw a goal ruled out through offside from Tommy Gray.

In the second half the game opened out more but the decisive moment in the match – and possibly the title race itself – occurred with 15 minutes left.

Bovingdons Gray saw his effort strike the crossbar and bounce to safety, allowing for a swift Old Danes counter-attack which saw Chris White score the decisive goal.

Despite being reduced to ten men for the final few minutes, Old Danes held on for the win.

Prince George are the new leaders but being held 0-0 by Inter was a big surprise.

Both sides missed chances but the two points dropped by Prince George could well prove decisive in their quest for the title.

Prince George are the leaders on a goal difference of just two better than Old Danes. Bushey Grove, who did not play on Sunday, are a point behind the top two with two games in hand on both off them, and a goal difference just one worse than Old Danes.

Cassiobury Revolution gained a second point of the season, coming back from 4-1 down with 15 minutes remaining to draw 4-4 with Meriden Ballers.

A Russell North penalty and a goal from Graham Melsome put Ballers 2-0 ahead but Revolution pulled a goal back just before half time through a Paul Shelock penalty.

Meriden looked to have ensured the three points with two goals in the first ten minutes of the second half from Tom Dettmer and Daps Joshua. But with just 15 minutes left Revolution staged a comeback to take a point.

First Will Keedy scored with a free kick and within minutes the lead was further cut as Drew Higgin netted.

The equaliser was scored by Chris Massey when his cross from left found its way into the goal.

In the final seconds Anthony Highet missed a golden to chance to win the game for Revolution but his header just quite didn’t have the power to beat the goalkeeper.

Bedmond scored a vital 4-2 victory over Watford Labour Club in the battle for runners-up behind champions-elect United.

Jordan Davies put Bedmond ahead after five minutes. But Labour equalised through a wind-assisted free kick from Charles Linsley and on the stroke of half-time a penalty from Mark Bedford put them ahead.

In the second half it was all one-way traffic towards the Labour goal with James Harvey equalising before a solo goal from George Dalling put them ahead.

The win was completed thanks to a late penalty from Jordan Davies.

WD Athletic came from behind to get the better of Woodlands Laurels 2-1.

Laurels went ahead with a goal in the second minute from Darren Reilly, WD equalised five minutes later through Patrick Armstrong and Anthony Turner scored what turned out to the winner on the half-hour mark after a goalmouth scramble.
