Craig Cathcart’s acrobatic volley helped Watford defeat Birmingham City and helped the defender win the sponsor’s man of the match award. But who was your stand-out Hornets performer?

Cathcart’s excellent goal secured the Golden Boys the three points and sent Watford to the top of the Championship with two games remaining.

Bar one error in the opening period, the centre-back was dependable again in defence and he has been an unsung hero this season.

Ben Watson was at his effective best against the Blues. The midfielder helped the Hornets maintain possession and won several challenges which allowed Watford dictate the tempo of the contest.

Ikechi Anya made an instant impact after being brought on from the substitutes’ bench in the 54th minute.

It was his cross that allowed Cathcart to hook a volley into the top corner and the Scottish international’s pace provided the Hornets with an outlet down the left flank.

Troy Deeney wasn’t on the scoresheet against the side he supports but he was outstanding. The Hornets’ captain never stopped running and harassing the Birmingham defence but he also held the ball up superbly throughout the contest.
