Steve Finn completed a superb Test comeback taking eight wickets in England's crushing defeat of Australia in the third Ashes match at Edgbaston.

The Watford bowler was in exceptional form yesterday, taking five wickets to leave the tourists on the verge of defeat. Finn carried on where he left off this morning as he claimed the wicket of Peter Nevill on 59 to finish the second innings with figures of six for 79 from 21 overs.

The 26-year-old also made a significant contribution in the first innings taking the key wickets of Steve Smith and Michael Clarke as he picked up two for 38.

It was a remarkable performance by the Middlesex fast bowler in his first Test appearance for two years after being deemed unselectable on the Ashes Tour in Australia at the start of 2014.

Man-of-the-match Finn told Sky Sports: "When I dreamt about it before the game I didn't think it would quite go as it has done. It's just nice to be playing to be honest.

"I felt in good rhythm when I bowled for my county this season and you just have to trust the work you've done and thankfully when I went out there the early wicket and to feel in good rhythm settled the nerves.

"That first wicket I don't think I've ever celebrated a wicket as emotionally before but that's the way it goes and I'm just happy to be out there."

Reflecting on his spell yesterday, when taking five wickets, Finn added: "That's probably as good as I've bowled in Test match cricket. Again I just trusted the work I've done and thankfully the ball came out in nice areas."

On learning from his time away from Test cricket over the last two years, he said: "It teaches you to enjoy the highs a little bit more. When you do feel those lows it allows you to enjoy those highs a little bit more so to be here at the moment and help England win the Test match is a great feeling."

England's comprehensive eight-wicket win over Australia inside three days has given them a 2-1 lead heading into next week's fourth Test at Trent Bridge.
