Quique Sanchez Flores says Watford midfielder Almen Abdi may not be fit for the Hornets’ opening Premier League game against Everton next Saturday.
The Swiss midfielder suffered a knee injury against Dundee United a week ago which forced him off at half time of that friendly.
He has subsequently missed the warm-up matches at Cardiff City and against Sevilla at Vicarage Road yesterday evening.
New signing Jose Manuel Jurado was also absent against the Spaniards with a muscular problem.
Flores was asked after the Hornets’ 1-0 defeat to Sevilla if the duo would be ready for the trip to Goodison next week.
He replied: “Abdi maybe not but Jurado will be. In a couple of days we will be ready to incorporate Jurado back in training. He will be ok.”
New Hornets signing Steven Berghuis played 45 minutes of the game before being substituted at half time with a slight injury to his upper left leg.
“I didn’t want to take the risk and make it worse,” said the 23-year-old.
"I haven't played 90 minutes for two months. I have to get used to the tempo and used to the strength [of English football].
"I defended a lot [tonight] and I felt like I didn’t have the strength to make the difference in the attack.”
