Radlett racer Alex Jones says there were positives in the latest races of the 750MC Formula Vee Championship at Silverstone at the weekend.

Jones, in his third season in the championship, came 20th in race one and 17th in the second but had issues with traffic in qualifying for both.

He secured row 11 for race one, in which he made a solid start but midway through the race he went into Stowe corner with too much speed.

After spinning, he narrowly avoided being hit by oncoming cars behind him.

Having secured 20th place, his qualifying for race two was improved upon as he grabbed a row ten spot.

It was a similar story in the race as he was boxed in, and a lack of power saw him swap positions lap-by-lap with Bears Motorsport teammate Ed Lowndes.

With the race almost over, Jones made a definitive move to get by, launching down the inside with a fine pass to snatch 17th position.

Jones said: “That has to be one of the most eventful race weekends I’ve competed in but it was so much fun. There’s plenty I can take away to learn from.

“I was maybe a bit too ambitious and, before I knew it, I was facing the wrong way with 14 cars coming at me. Luckily everyone made it through but it was a scary moment.

“In race two, I was losing power on the straights so we could have finished higher up.

“It’s disappointing that the results don’t reflect the team’s efforts but I hope we can make up for it in the final two races.”
